About Me

Hi! I'm Shannon.

I am currently finishing my PhD in molecular ecology (est. graduation date is May 2025!) at the Florida Institute of Technology in the Daly-Engel Shark Conservation Lab (check us out here!). I'm studying local adaptation and genetic structuring of bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) and future climate impacts of habitat use and genetic variation.

I've always been interested in studying sharks, but it wasn't until my Master's program at San Francisco State University that I became interested in genetics. I've been lucky enough so far to spend my career focusing on the genetics of cartilaginous fishes (sharks, skates, and rays).

My goal is to continue working in the realm of molecular ecology/conservation genetics, with a focus on climate impacts of habitat use of cartilaginous fishes.
